The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced that basic military training will be introduced for all national service personnel starting on August 3, 2025.

This announcement follows a meeting held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, between NSA leaders and the Military High Command at the Ministry of Defence in Accra.

The meeting focused on implementing the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), a new training initiative designed to provide service personnel with basic military drills and orientation. This initiative reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s proposal during his first State of the Nation Address to Parliament on February 27, 2025, where he recommended short-term military training for graduates to foster discipline, patriotism, and physical readiness.

Felix Gyamfi, the Director-General of the NSA, stated that the programme will include two months of comprehensive drills for service personnel as part of their national service experience.

“This military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” Mr Gyamfi said.

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, representing the Military High Command at the meeting, assured the National Security Advisor (NSA) of the Armed Forces’ readiness to provide necessary support when the program is implemented.

Although the details of the implementation plan are still being finalised, the NSA has indicated that it is collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure that all logistical arrangements are in place before the programmestarts in August.
