Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denounced remarks made by Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, describing them as irresponsible and urging Ghanaians to hold the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accountable in the upcoming general elections.
Acheampong, also the Minister of Food and Agriculture, recently stated at a campaign rally in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency that the NPP would “do whatever it takes“ to secure victory in the election.
He emphasized that the party, which he claimed includes pastors, imams, and traditionalists, is equipped to win through any means necessary.
“Burn the sea if you don’t understand; we’ll win and continue with our good works,“ Acheampong declared, portraying the NPP as an election-winning machine that would make it nearly impossible for the NDC to succeed.
Tameklo condemned Acheampong’s comments as reckless and damaging, calling on voters to respond by rejecting the NPP at the polls.
He criticized the statement as indicative of a broader pattern of irresponsible rhetoric from the NPP.
Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, MP for Tamale Central, echoed these sentiments, criticizing Acheampong and other NPP leaders for making divisive and inflammatory statements.
He accused the NPP of focusing on religious and ethnic rhetoric rather than addressing substantive issues. Murtala Mohammed also vowed to counter any attempts at election rigging, emphasizing the NDC’s commitment to ensuring a fair electoral process.
