Deputy General Secretary of Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused party insiders of fabricating extortion allegations against former National Organizer Joseph Yamin.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM on Monday, Gbande dismissed claims that Yamin operates illegal mining taskforces as “internal sabotage” designed to discredit a senior party figure.

“These reports originate from within our ranks, not the opposition,” Gbande stated. “Some ungrateful elements want Yamin removed because they covet positions despite having contributed nothing to the party’s success.” He alleged the saboteurs aim to undermine Yamin’s reputation to facilitate their own advancement under President Mahama’s administration.

The allegations surfaced over the weekend, accusing Yamin of deploying groups that extort money from illegal miners. Yamin has formally denied involvement, urging affected individuals to report grievances to authorities. Gbande emphasized Yamin’s loyalty, noting: “We’ve dedicated our youth to this party. Grassroots recognition validates our work more than these malicious schemes.”

The deputy secretary warned saboteurs would be “named and shamed,” framing the attack as part of broader internal tensions within the NDC as it governs under President Mahama’s second term.
