Deputy Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, says the party’s legal challenge over the Akwatia parliamentary seat was aimed at defending a clear victory, not simply seeking power.

Speaking on GTV’s Current Agenda on 30 August 2025, he stressed that the NDC did not act out of desperation.

“You know we didn’t just go to court because we felt like taking the seat. We want the seat we clearly won in 2024,” he said.

According to him, confusion over who had the authority to declare results forced the NDC to pursue justice in the courts. Mr Tanko emphasized that the party’s aim was not merely to unseat an opponent but to restore fairness.

“What we wanted was to make sure we claim our seat that we won,” he added.

The NDC says its commitment in Akwatia is rooted in defending the people’s mandate and strengthening representation in Parliament.
