The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat for the first time.

Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the NDC candidate, was declared the winner by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, after a closely contested race.

She garnered 50,967 votes, narrowly surpassing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mike Oquaye Jr., who received 50,669 votes.

This victory marks a significant shift in a constituency traditionally dominated by the NPP. The seat was previously held by Sarah Adwoa Safo since 2012.

Akurugu’s win reflects a broader trend in the 2024 elections, where the NDC has made gains in constituencies previously considered NPP strongholds, including Adansi Asokwa and Sekondi.
