The newly recognised Paramount Chief of Damongo, Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I, is calling on all residents and stakeholders to unite and support him in restoring the dignity and development of the Damongo Paramountcy.
His appeal comes after he was officially gazetted by the National House of Chiefs, giving him full national recognition as the only legitimate chief of the Damongo Traditional Area in the Savannah Region.
This major milestone ends eight years of a chieftaincy dispute that began in 2016, following the death of the late Damongowura Jakpa James Tuntumba. Since then, two elders from the Dangepe gate had claimed the title, leaving the area without a recognised chief and affecting development.
Despite several efforts by local security councils to resolve the conflict, the matter remained unsettled until it was taken to the Yagbonwura, the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom. After thorough consultations, the kingmakers finally settled on Seidu Kelly Boresa I as the rightful chief on November 24, 2023.
Speaking to 3News, Damongowura Seidu Kelly Boresa I called for peace and unity.
“I appeal to all to come together and support me in restoring the prominence of the Damongo paramountcy,” he said.
