Nigeria fulfils housing and land pledges to Super Eagles for 2023 AFCON second place finish

The government of Nigeria has delivered on its promise of housing and land to members of the Super Eagles following their runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cte dIvoire.Certificates for allocated plots and housing units were presented to the players at the teams camp in Fes, Morocco, on Monday, according to Promise Efoghe, Media Officer for the national team.Nigeria finished second at the 2023 tournament after a 21 loss to hosts Cte dIvoire in the final in January 2023. Upon their return, President Bola Tinubu hosted the squad at the Presidential Villa, conferring the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on each player.In addition, he approved a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory and a residential flat for every squad member in recognition of their achievement.Certificates were also presented as instruments of conferment of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by Sen. Abdul Ningi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, and Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adeniyi.Speaking at the presentation, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau highlighted the significance of fulfilling the governments pledges ahead of the teams AFCON campaign.The president graciously promised houses and lands, as well as national honours, and today those promises are being fulfilled. There was no reason to begin another AFCON campaign without honouring that pledge. This shows seriousness and respect for the players, Gusau said.The Super Eagles arrived in Fez on 18 December from their final training camp in Cairo and opened their Group C campaign against Tanzania with a 2-1 win.
