Manager for renowned afrobeats singer , Tems,  Muyiwa Awoniyi, has disclosed that Nigerian artistes earn approximately $300 for one million music streams in Nigeria.

On a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, Awoniyi compared this to markets like Sweden, where one million streams can generate $8,000 to $10,000.

He attributed the disparity to Nigeria’s low streaming subscription rates.

Awoniyi highlighted that Spotify’s monthly subscription in Nigeria costs around ₦900, significantly lower than in other regions.

He also criticised the territorial royalty calculation model, which he believes disadvantages Nigerian artists globally.

“Do you know what one million streams in Nigeria is worth? About $300. In Sweden, it’s $8,000 to $10,000. Spotify’s subscription here is just ₦900,” he explained.

“If your IP is tied to a region where one million streams equals $300, you’re at a huge disadvantage,” he added.
