The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary boycott of music by Burna Boy following a reported physical altercation with DJ Tunez at Obi’s House, a popular Afrobeats gathering in Lagos.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the incident began as a heated exchange before escalating into a physical confrontation, with members of Burna Boy’s team allegedly involved. The exact cause remains unclear, though speculation points to lingering industry tensions, including DJ Tunez’s close ties to Wizkid.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the NDJ condemned hostility within the industry and called for unity, emphasizing that “people simply learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love.” Reaffirming its principles, the association stressed that it “stands firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL,’” advocating for “equal justice, equal opportunity and equal dignity without discrimination” across the profession.

The NDJ concluded by announcing immediate action, stating that “Burna Boy music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice,” pending a full investigation into the incident involving DJ Tunez. The group urged tolerance within the community, warning that “we cannot all succeed when half of us are being held back,” while reiterating its stance against “the discrimination of any of its #NDJ.”
