Tatale-Sanguli Member of Parliament Ntebe Ayo William has provided financial assistance to 50 academically gifted students facing economic hardship. The scholarships aim to expand higher education access in the northern constituency.

William announced the initiative during a ceremony at Tatale District Assembly Hall, where recipients received comprehensive support packages. The funding covers university tuition, textbooks, accommodation and essential living expenses through the MP’s Common Fund allocation.

Students were selected from communities across the constituency based on academic excellence despite financial constraints. A transparent committee process ensured aid reached those with greatest need, according to parliamentary officials.

“Assisting these young ones to further their studies will help curb poverty and enable them to harness their potential,” William said. He described education as fundamental to breaking poverty cycles while developing future leadership for the constituency and nation.

The MP emphasized strategic use of Common Fund resources, which represent parliamentary allocations from national revenue for constituency development. Education remains his priority focus for these discretionary funds since taking office following the 2024 elections.

District Chief Executive Mary Tagba praised the scholarship program as supporting national education equity goals. The initiative aligns with Ghana’s Education Strategic Plan objectives for expanded access to quality higher education across all regions.

One beneficiary, a 19-year-old from Sangban pursuing medical laboratory science, expressed relief at receiving support. “My family could not afford university fees, but now I can pursue my dream of becoming a biomedical laboratory scientist,” she said.

William has launched several education initiatives since his election, including school infrastructure improvements and teacher training programs. The constituency faces significant educational challenges common to northern Ghana, where poverty often prevents capable students from advancing their studies.

Traditional authorities and residents have welcomed the MP’s education focus, viewing long-term human capital development as essential for local economic progress. The scholarships represent immediate intervention while broader development projects take shape.

The program demonstrates how parliamentary Common Fund allocations can directly impact individual lives while supporting broader development objectives. Similar initiatives across northern constituencies could help address regional educational disparities.

Recipients must maintain academic standards and complete their programs to honor the investment in their education. The expectation is that graduates will contribute to regional development upon completing their studies.
