Kofi Tonto, political aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the Ayensuano constituency for the upcoming 2024 elections.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on August 12, Tonto predicted that the NPP would reclaim the seat, which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) narrowly lost in the 2020 election.

Tonto attributed the previous loss to internal divisions within the NPP. “Ayensuano is a constituency we have held for quite some time.

Honourable Samuel Ayeh-Paye, who contested three times, lost the seat to the NDC by just 200 votes. This loss was mainly due to divisions within the party at the time,” he explained.

However, Tonto assured that the NPP is better positioned for the upcoming election, citing improved unity within the party.

He noted that all candidates who contested in the primary have since pledged their support to the party’s current candidate, Ida Adjoa Asiedu.

“The good news is that the party has united, and all the individuals who contested in the primaries have now rallied behind our candidate.

Ayensuano is now very united, and we have a robust and cohesive front ready to work together,” Tonto added.

The NPP’s renewed focus on unity and strategic positioning aims to reclaim the Ayensuano seat and strengthen the party’s presence in the Eastern Region.
