Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, has suggested that while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could secure the presidency with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as their candidate, they might lose seats in Parliament.
This assertion follows a report by Fitch Solutions predicting a solid chance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the December elections. Speaking on the Big Issue on Channel One TV, Dr Adomako Kissi questioned the prediction, citing international trends where ruling parties have retained power despite losing parliamentary seats.
He pointed to examples from France and South Africa, where sitting governments lost significant seats but remained in power. Dr Adomako Kissi emphasised that anything could happen between now and the December 7 elections.
“From a mathematical standpoint and based on trends in other countries, there’s a possibility that Bawumia wins the presidency while the NPP’s parliamentary seats drop from 138 to 102,” he said. “The NPP will not take this prediction for granted and is working towards breaking the ‘8’.”
He reiterated that the NPP is focused on retaining power, even if it means a reduced majority in Parliament.
