Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will mark its New York chapter’s 33rd anniversary with a high-stakes gathering of global supporters next week.
The two-day event, themed “33 Years of Devoted Service: Reigniting the Base,” aims to galvanize diaspora backing ahead of Ghana’s 2028 elections. Presidential hopefuls, MPs, and party leaders will converge in New Rochelle for strategy talks and fundraising.
Saturday’s gala dinner at Hotel NoMa doubles as a critical fundraiser, running from 7 p.m. to midnight.
Sunday shifts to Glen Island for a Ghanaian cookout—complete with jollof, highlife music, and networking under the banner “Kukruuudu – Rebuilding to Recapture!” Organizers emphasize this isn’t just a celebration but a reset for the NPP, which seeks to unseat President John Mahama’s NDC government.
With the NPP yet to pick its 2028 candidate, the event offers a platform for contenders to court overseas influence. The chapter’s three-decade role in mobilizing funds and votes abroad makes this milestone pivotal. As one planner noted: “When diaspora speaks, Accra listens.”
