New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha has condemned Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) for ordering a parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North’s 19 polling stations, calling the move “dangerous and unlawful.”

In a July 8 Movement TV interview, Mustapha declared, “If we partake, it is going to be all die be die,” alleging the decision incentivizes political violence.

Mustapha argued the rerun scheduled for July 11 sets a perilous precedent: “If [elections] are about who can build forces, we would start forming militia groups.” His remarks follow the NPP’s filing of an interlocutory injunction against the EC, which the party accuses of overstepping its mandate without judicial backing. “The EC doesn’t have power to rerun elections in selected stations,” he asserted on Channel One TV.

The dispute stems from December 2024 parliamentary results in the constituency, where the EC cited unresolved irregularities. The NPP’s legal challenge reflects heightened tensions under President Mahama’s NDC administration, elected in 2024. Analysts note the rhetoric underscores Ghana’s fragile electoral peace amid deepening political polarization.
