The Oguaa Traditional Council has declared a temporary ban on noisemaking, fishing, and funeral-related activities in the lead-up to this year’s Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
In a public notice sighted by Ghana Weekend, the Council announced that the ban will take effect from Tuesday, August 5, 2025, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, as part of efforts to uphold cultural customs and ensure a solemn and respectful preparation period for the annual festival.
Activities Banned:
Excessive noisemaking of any kind
Quarrelling within the traditional area
Pounding of fufu after 6:00 PM
Playing of drums or loud music
Wailing or loud mourning
Additionally, fishing in the Fosu Lagoon is strictly prohibited until September 2, 2025, while all funeral activities are suspended until September 19, 2025.
The Council emphasised that members of the Asafo companies will be patrolling the area to ensure strict adherence to the directive.
Residents are urged to comply fully, as sanctions will be imposed on individuals or groups who flout the rules.
The ban is a longstanding tradition meant to preserve peace, cleanse the land, and spiritually prepare the community for the celebration of the revered Fetu Afahye festival.
