Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs, has urged chiefs across Ghana to promote peace as the December 7 elections approach.
He asked chiefs to act responsibly to uphold the respect and reputation of the chieftaincy institution during this important time.
With just 36 days until Ghanaians vote for presidential and parliamentary candidates, calls for a peaceful election are increasing from key figures.
In his farewell speech at a meeting in Kumasi on Friday, November 1, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II stressed that chiefs play a crucial role as peace ambassadors, encouraging them to work together for a smooth and peaceful election.
“With only a few days left until the parliamentary and presidential elections, let us keep advocating for fair, peaceful, and transparent elections,” he said.
He also reminded chiefs to maintain their dignity, which strengthens the public’s respect for the chieftaincy institution.
“Despite challenges, it’s clear that the chieftaincy’s reputation has improved, and its public profile is growing,” he said. “We must keep working hard to protect the image and respect of our institution. Our actions, both as individuals and as a group, should lift our image; we must avoid anything that could damage it.”
