Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Member of Parliament for Jomoro in the Western Region, and President Mahama’s nominee for Deputy Minister of Transport has revealed that only 4 out of the 10 electric buses delivered to Metro Mass Transit in November 2024 are currently operational.
She made the disclosure during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, July 25, 2025. According to her, while 100 electric buses were ordered, only 10 have so far been delivered and of those, 6 are not functioning due to electrical faults or charging-related issues.
Madam Affo-Toffey noted that the challenges with the faulty buses have been addressed by the Minister of Transport and described the electric bus initiative as a positive move towards reducing transportation costs and promoting environmental sustainability.
”These electric buses are cheaper and environmentally friendly” she said.
She also noted that public education on the use of electric buses has already taken place in 13 regions. If confirmed, she pledged to support the Transport Ministry in extending the awareness campaign to the remaining regions.
“When I’m giving the nod, I will support my sector minister to make sure that we visit the rest of the regions and educate the public” she said.
