Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, has firmly rejected any attempts to alter the historical narrative of the Dormaa people, emphasizing the importance of preserving their rich cultural heritage.
Addressing a ceremony at his Abanpredease palace, where he officiated the enstoolment of several sub-chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II underscored the need for the sub-chiefs to safeguard Dormaa’s history against misrepresentation.
“When we neglect to promote our history, we open the door for others to distort it, which undermines our independence, freedom, and sovereignty,” he stated.
The newly enstooled sub-chiefs included Baffour Kwasi Asibeh Boateng I, Papahene of the Dormaa Traditional Area; Nana Kwaku Agyemang, Krontihene; Nana Kofi Kyeremeh, Dwantoahene and Acting Gyasehene; and Nana Kwaku Ofori, Nifahene.
Other notable appointments included Nana Kwadwo Yeboah, Daberehene; Nana Kwasi Agyemang, Krontihene; Nana Yaw Oppong, Gyasehene; Nana Yaw Asare, Abrafohene; Nana Osei Kwame, Gyasehene; and Nana Kofi Dei, Twafohene.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II, who also serves as President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, affirmed his commitment to preserving the true history of the Dormaa State.
He highlighted the importance of combining development with historical preservation to prevent the loss or distortion of their narrative. “As long as I am alive, I will ensure that the true story of Dormaa is preserved and communicated accurately,” he said.
Reflecting on the history of the Dormaa state, the Paramount Chief recounted its migration from Nsawam to various locations, including Ho, Asumegya, Bomaa, Hwidiem, Abesim, Nkumsa, and Cote Ivoire, before finally settling in its present location. This migration spanned approximately 240 years, from 1640 to 1880.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Badu II urged the royal families and sub-chiefs to support the newly appointed leaders and emphasized improved sanitation.
He also announced the upcoming Kwafie Festival and the 25th anniversary of his enstoolment, scheduled from December 9 to December 22, 2024, calling for the support and participation of all chiefs.
