Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has justified stringent bail conditions imposed on former Ghana Airports Company Board Chair Paul Adom-Otchere, calling them lawful and necessary.
The OSP’s response follows public criticism over demands for landed property as collateral.
In a video statement, an OSP representative clarified that requiring property-valued bail aims to deter suspects from absconding. “If you run away, that property will be confiscated to the state. It is to encourage you to show up,” the official stated. The agency warned suspects unable to meet the requirement effectively forfeit asset protections: “If you say you don’t have anything, you have placed yourself on the state. Anything found on you is confiscated.”
Adom-Otchere faces OSP scrutiny linked to a revenue assurance audit contract awarded during his tenure. The probe centers on procedural compliance at the state-owned airports authority.
