Management of the James Camp Prison, has sent an S.O.S to individuals and organizations to support the prison with medications and food items for the said, providing three square meals for the inmates with the 1.80 pesewas stipend from the Government is woefully inadequate.
She says the camp sometimes runs out of stock affecting the wellbeing of the inmates.
DDP Sophia Osei-Bonsu made the appeal when the Osu Eben-Ezer Presbyterian Church supported the Camp with some food items and medications.
The items include chest freezer, foodstuffs, medications, toiletries, and packs of bottled water. The District Minister of the Osu Eben-Ezer Presbyterian Church Rev. Erasmus Mensah Laryea said the donation forms part of the church’s spiritual and physical mandate.
Rev. Erasmus Mensah Laryea, said the church observes lent each year and during the period funds generated are used to support the less privileged in society. While calling on all to support the Prisons, Rev. Mensah Laryea promised the churches continuous support.
Receiving the items worth GHC15,000 the Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Sophia Osei-Bonsu thanked the church for the gesture.
She called on the public, organizations and institutions to support the James Camp Prison.
The James Camp Prison, is a halfway home, for inmates who have served part of their sentences in the main prisons and have few years left to be discharged.
The Camp is a skilled acquisition centre which shapes inmates for easy reintegration into society.
