
Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, has revealed that the decision to sack Otto Addo was finalised after the defeat to Austria.As part of Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 World Cup this summer, the team were hosted at theErnst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna last Friday in the first game of their two friendlies for the March international window.However, the team suffered a 5-1 drubbing loss against Ralf Rangnick’s side.Following the team’s 2-1 loss against Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed in a statement that they have parted ways with the 50-year-old.However, Mr Acheampong has revealed that the decision to cut ties with the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach was concluded after the humiliating defeat to Austria.Irrespective of the outcome of the Germany match, Otto Addo was going to be sacked,” Acheampong told Kessben FM.”The decision was formulated after the Austria match; we were just buying time,” he added.Although Otto Addo led Ghana to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, his tenure was inconsistent, particularly against stronger opponents.Meanwhile, the Black Stars are set to regroup in May for friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as part of their World Cup preparations.Ghana, appearing at their fifth World Cup, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, aiming to advance past the group stage for the first time since their 2010 campaign.
