President John Dramani Mahama during the launch of the STEM boxes for basic schools on Thursday, December 4, 2025 in Accra, stated that, the tools to be used in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education in schools have been manufactured and by Ghanaians to help the Ghanaian child.
He emphasized that the love of inquiry in children are best developed at a basic education level hence the need to focus on basic schools.
According to him, this creates a unique distinction from other countries who have embraced STEM education from the get-go.
“…our tools are made by Ghanaians for Ghanaian children. The stem boxes we are launching today are far more than just learning tools”, he said.
According to him, “If we ignite their curiosity at that level, if we do it early, we build a generation that is capable of leading Ghana into a technologically advanced future”.
The President also mentioned the need to follow in the footsteps of countries that have taken up the STEM education and benefiting from it. He cited countries such as Finland, Japan, Singapore and South Korea who have long demonstrated intentionally that, early exposure to STEM through simple kits, design challenges and hands-on learning creates powerful outcomes.
He assured that the country is joining in that forward march but with a unique distinction where the tools to be used are made by Ghanaians.
He also added that children are the gateway to exploration, discovery and invention hinting that the launch marks an important milestone in the nation’s quest to build an educational system that truly prepares children for the future.
