Over 44 Cameroonians arrested in Ashanti region for internet fraud and human trafficking

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested 44 Cameroonian nationals who have allegedly being involved in internet fraud and human trafficking.

‎The main suspect, 29-year-old Bella Merie, was arrested along with 43 others at a house in Kenyasi Abrem on Monday, April 7.

‎A police statement released on April 10, signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, said initial investigations showed that Merie collected about 4.5 million CFA Francs from the victims. The victims, made up of 32 men and 11 women, were promised jobs in Ghana but were deceived.

‎According to police, the scam was carried out using a known online fraud scheme called Q-NET.All the suspects, aged between 22 and 38, have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further processing and possible return to Cameroon.
