Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil was on target for LA Galaxy in their 1-1 draw with Sporting San Miguelito in the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round One on Friday morning.
Paintsil started the encounter and delivered an energetic performance, featuring for 76 minutes as the Major League Soccer side battled for a positive result away from home at the Estadio Universitario.
The Panamanian outfit opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Rodrigo Tello found the net, giving the hosts a slender lead at halftime.
LA Galaxy, however, emerged stronger after the break and pushed for an equalizer. Their persistence paid off in the 68th minute when Paintsil calmly finished from close range after being teed up by Joao Klauss.
The Ghana international was substituted eight minutes later for Harbor Miller, having already made a decisive impact on the contest.
The result leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the second leg, with Paintsil’s timely strike providing LA Galaxy with a crucial away goal and renewed confidence in their bid to advance.
Joseph will be looking to stay in top form as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, as he aims to make the Ghana squad for the tournament.
