‎Parliament has officially notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency, following a directive from the High Court in Tamale ordering a rerun of the parliamentary elections in the area.

‎In a letter dated December 4, 2025, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, informed the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensah, that the seat had become vacant as a result of a court order issued on November 24, 2025.

‎The Clerk explained that the notification is in line with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates Parliament to formally declare a vacancy once it is established through legal or procedural means.

‎“The occurrence of the vacancy in the membership of Parliament was occasioned by the Order of the High Court, Tamale, for a rerun of the Kpandai Parliamentary Elections,” the letter stated. The Clerk further noted that the decision follows the service of a court order referencing case number NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25, in which Parliament is named as the fourth respondent.

‎The declaration sets the stage for the Electoral Commission to initiate processes for a fresh parliamentary poll in the constituency.

‎Parliament says the notice takes immediate effect.
