Feminist Pressure Group Pepperdem has clashed with its founder Dr Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor over the appointment of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Louise Carol Serwaa Nyarko in a press statement said “The NDC’s nomination of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, deceitful as it is merely intended to harness her seeming nobility to sanitize the image of John Dramani Mahama, irredeemably blemished by corruption and incompetence, sets her up as a sheep amongst wolves, without any true opportunity for impact,” she said in a statement.
Dr. Donkor also pointed out Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s nomination could hinder efforts at promoting the rights of women.
“Rather than signalling transformation progress, the nomination could set the women agenda many years back in the most unlikely event that Ghanaians give their mandate to the NDC in 2020 to deliver an assured continuation of poor governance and corruption.”
But Pepperdem Ministries have in a contradictory congratulatory message, said the appointment of Prof. Jane Naan Agyemang is a historic victory and marks the first time a major political party in the country has appointed a female running mate.
To them, this move is a great win for women representation in the highest office of the land.
According to the group, the appointment represents a paradigm shift where more women leaders especially within the major political parties that determine women’s political representation locally, regionally, and nationally are unhindered from pursuing the highest office of service to the nation on account of their gender.
