Algeria head into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a renewed mindset, as head coach Vladimir Petkovic urges his players to leave past disappointments behind and focus firmly on the present challenge. After two difficult AFCON campaigns, which saw the Desert Foxes fail to reach the knockout stages in the 2021 and 2023 editions, a sharp contrast to their title-winning success in 2019, Petkovic has stressed the importance of moving forward.”The most important thing is not to look too much at the past. We must live in the present, work every day, and improve step by step,” the Swiss coach said in an interview with CAF. “The past is an experience, not a burden. We need to focus on what we can improve today.”Algeria have been drawn into a competitive group featuring Sudan, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea. Their campaign gets underway on Wednesday, December 24, against Sudan, coached by Ghanas Kwesi Appiah. With lessons learned from recent setbacks and confidence drawn from past success, Algeria will be aiming to navigate the group stage and restore belief as they seek a deeper run at the tournament.
