The suspects were identified as Issaku Ibrahim, 42; Fatau Ali, 25; Yahaya Mumuni, 26; and Emmanuel Antwi, 22, who were arrested on March 12, 2026, the day the robbery occurred.

A police brief copied to the Ghana News Agency said a fifth suspect, whose name was not disclosed, was arrested on the morning of March 13, 2026, by community members and handed over to the police.

According to the brief, the suspects disclosed during interrogation that they had travelled from Obuasi to carry out the robbery.

It said that on March 12, 2026, at about 1920 hours, one Chen Zchao, a Chinese national residing at Malta, a suburb of Asankragwa, accompanied by Christopher Opoku, reported to the police that at about 1830 hours the same day, six armed men attacked him and his younger brother, Yao Chan, at his spare parts shop.

The suspects, armed with two pump-action guns and cutlasses, robbed them of their personal belongings, including three mobile phones and cash amounting to GH¢200,000.

The brief said the suspects fled the scene in a black Toyota Voxy vehicle towards Sefwi Bekwai.

It said the Asankragwa Night Patrol Team, led by Inspector Stephen A. Bimpong and five other officers, responded to the complaint and pursued the suspects, while information was relayed to the Sumpre Police Checkpoint for assistance.

The brief said that at about 2000 hours the same day, a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number GS 756-25 approached the Sumpre police barrier.

It said the occupants abruptly opened the vehicle doors and attempted to flee on foot upon seeing the police at the checkpoint.

Police personnel, together with the Asankragwa Night Patrol Team, pursued and arrested four suspects.

A search of the vehicle led to the retrieval of one iPhone 13 mobile phone, one Nokia C300 mobile phone, a Villovan mobile phone, and cash amounting to GH¢198,200.

The police also retrieved two pump-action guns, 14 AA cartridges, one Bruni Mod 84 Cal. 9 PAK pistol with a magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition, a machete, an amulet or talisman, and two CCTV decoders.

The brief said cautioned statements had been taken from the suspects, who were assisting with investigations.

It said efforts were underway to arrest the remaining accomplice, who is currently at large.
