The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has pledged its full cooperation to the minority caucus in Parliament as they prepare for a planned public demonstration against the Governors of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
In a statement issued following receipt of the caucus notification letter dated July 17, 2024, the GPS confirmed the scheduled protest for July 30. The route specified for the demonstration will span from Obra Spot through Adabraka Farisco, Ridge Roundabout, National Theatre Traffic Light, and High Court Complex and branch onto Atta Mills Highway, concluding at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum.
The Ghana Police Service acknowledges the intended route of the protest and expects that the organizers will ensure peaceful conduct throughout. This affirmation of the peaceful intentions of the protest should provide a sense of calm and security to the public and the minority caucus.
The GPS further specified that a delegation of 10 protestors, chosen by the minority caucus for their leadership and representation, would be authorized to present their petition to relevant authorities.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirms its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the protest. The statement emphasizes the Police Service’s crucial role in facilitating a peaceful demonstration while safeguarding public safety and security, providing reassurance to the public and the minority caucus.
The upcoming protest, which is expected to be a peaceful demonstration, underscores growing tensions surrounding governance issues in Ghana. The minority caucus is using this platform to voice their concerns regarding the policies and practices of the Bank of Ghana.
