A police officer has lost his life after suspected armed robbers opened fire during an attack on the Zebilla-Widnaba road in the Upper East Region.
The incident happened on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Two police officers were journeying from Widnaba to Zebilla when they reportedly came across an armed robbery in progress along the road.
The suspects opened fire when they saw the police officers, fatally injuring one policeman. The injured officer, who has not yet been named, was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital by a police team.
In a statement released by the regional police, officers stated that the police have launched an investigation with a special operation to trace and arrest all people involved. The police assured the public that suspects will be brought to justice and called on residents to work with security agencies to provide useful information.
