Former Black Stars defender, Lee Addy, said the big clubs in Ghana must present Ghanaian plyers with good contracts to stay and play in the Ghana Premier League

The 30-year-old former Red Star Belgrade player was part of some Ghanaian players stranded in Ethiopia due to the closure of borders and had to plead with authorities in a viral video to be brought back home.

The Ghana Football Association and the government of Ghana collaborated to airlift the 30 players to Ghana last week. They are doing their mandatory 14 days quarantine at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.

The ex-Berekum Chelsea player, who now plies his trade in Ethiopia, is prescribing remedies as to how Ghanaian clubs can keep their stars at home rather than the mass exodus of players to other African countries.

“Our only motivation to stay and play in the league is if Ghanaian clubs can present us with good offers”, he told Happy 98.9 FM,

“I will urge all the big clubs in the country to invest in the players and they will gain in the long run. It will also help the league to be competitive”, Addy added.

He also disclosed that in Ethiopian $1,000 is the minimum salary a player should be paid set by the Ethiopian FA.

Addy, therefore, suggested that the Ghana Football Association should also come to a consensus with clubs to set a ground price for players to be paid in Ghana.

“In Ethiopia, the FA has set a standard for players to be paid a minimum of $1,000. Most players in Ghana will prefer to play in Ethiopia than in Ghana because of the salary.

“We hope the GFA can turn things around on this issue but it must start from now”, he concluded.
