The Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Bill 2024, which had been in and out of the Parliament since 2011, and finally passed unanimously by Parliament on July 30, 2024, has been assented to by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
With the assent out of the way now, what is left is the implementation.
The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman made it known on Thursday afternoon that the President has assented to the Bill.
On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Parliament passed the historic Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Bill.

The bill seeks to address the historical and systemic gender imbalances that have long permeated the nation’s political, social, economic and cultural landscapes.
