Ghana on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 observed its first-ever National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving at the forecourt of the State House in Accra. The maiden event was held under the theme, “Reset, Reflect and Renew for National Prosperity,” bringing together citizens and leaders to unite in spiritual reflection and gratitude for the nation’s progress.
President John Dramani Mahama delivered a heartfelt message during the ceremony, expressing deep appreciation for Ghana’s journey and achievements.
He emphasized the significance of July 1, stating that it would no longer be remembered solely as Republic Day but also as a spiritual landmark dedicated to prayer and thanksgiving.
“Thanks to your prayer and faith, July 1st will no longer be remembered only as our Republic Day. It will now be enshrined as our national day of prayer and thanksgiving,” President Mahama declared.
Drawing inspiration from the Bible, President Mahama referenced 2 Chronicles 7:14, reminding Ghanaians of the power of humility and prayer in healing the nation. “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will heal their land,” he quoted. “Almighty God, today Ghana has humbled herself. Today Ghana has gathered together in prayer.”
The President further affirmed the nation’s commitment to spiritual renewal and moral transformation. “Today Ghana is seeking your face. Today Ghana is turning from all wicked ways. Today we have prayed and I believe that God you will heal our land. Indeed, He has already begun to heal our land and we thank Him for His blessings,” he said, invoking a collective hope for continued divine favor.
Concluding his address, President Mahama extended blessings to all Ghanaians, their families, churches, and communities.
“May the Lord bless you. May He bless your families. May He bless your churches. May He bless your communities. May He bless our beloved country Ghana and may He make our nation ever great and ever strong,” he prayed, inspiring a renewed sense of unity and purpose among the attendees.
