President Mahama reinstates over 60 radio stations shut down for non-compliance

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, to work with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to immediately restore the broadcast of over 60 closed radio stations.

These stations were previoulsy shut down due to regulatory non-compliance.

The President’s directive, communicated through his Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu emphasises the importance of balancing regulatory compliance with the fundamental principal of Media freedom.

President Mahama has further instructed the Minister to collaborate with the NCA to establish a time frame within which the affected radio stations can regularise their authorisation.

This move signals a more lenient approach to the regulatory enforcement previousuly undetaken by the NCA aiming to ensure broadcasting continuity while addressing compliance issues.
