President John Dramani Mahama has warned contractors against illegally building speed humps unauthorized by the Ministry of Roads and Highways and cautioned drivers who overload their trucks, as road construction begins on the Wenchi-Bole-Sawla-Wa Road Project.

“Let us avoid overloading our trucks and building illegal speed humps on the road,” he said.

He made this statement when he cut sod for the Wenchi-Bole-Sawla-Wa Road Project, a key component of the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure initiative.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Sawla in the Savannah Region on November 5, 2025, President Mahama assured Ghanaians that the project would be completed in 24 months, even though the contractors assured him it would be completed in less time. He further assured Ghanaians that “24 months after the launch of the Big Push project, we will have the best roads in West Africa.”

According to President Mahama, travel time from Wenchi to Wa will be cut by more than 50% when construction is completed.

The “Big Push” initiative is a flagship program aimed at comprehensively addressing the nation’s infrastructure deficit. President Mahama emphasized that the project would not only improve road connectivity but also boost economic activity and create jobs. This development is in line with the government’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s infrastructure landscape.
