President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated a state-of-the-art market in Akim Oda, bringing joy to the traders and people of the Birim Central Municipality.
The new facility replaces the old market destroyed by a fire in 2021, which displaced over 300 traders and caused significant losses.
The project, funded under the $100 million Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP), is part of the World Bank-supported Urban Development Grant (UDG) initiative implemented in 25 municipalities nationwide.
The market features four-storey blocks with over 250 lockable stores, a clinic, a banking hall, and a crèche, providing modern facilities to support the local economy.
President Akufo-Addo praised the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) Secretariat and its Administrator, Irene Naa Torshie Addo, for their role in completing the project.
“This market is not just a trading hub but a reflection of our commitment to improving infrastructure and livelihoods in Ghana’s municipalities”, he President said during the commissioning ceremony.
The market’s completion marks a significant step in revitalizing Akim Oda’s economy, offering better conditions for traders and fostering growth in the region.
