Former Black Stars striker Prince Tagoe believes that Daniel Afriyie Barnieh’s departure from Hearts of Oak was not on good terms, which he claims has contributed to the forward’s current poor.
Tagoe suggests that Barnieh has unresolved issues with Hearts of Oak and advises him to settle them in order to regain the form that once made him one of Ghana’s highly regarded young players.
Since Barnieh’s departure to Swiss side FC Zurich earlier this year, he has struggled to find his form. This was evident during the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Barnieh failed to score or provide an assist in three games as Ghana suffered an unexpected group stage exit, failing to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
“I always say that how Barnieh left the club was not good. His goodbye to the club was not nice, so for me, if he wants to play at the top of his game again, then he should come and settle any issues with the club, if any,” Tagoe stated during an interview on Angel TV.
Barnieh had enjoyed remarkable success at Hearts of Oak, winning the Ghana Premier League and two FA Cup trophies. His impressive form was evident in 2021 when he scored twice in the final of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, helping Ghana secure the championship in Mauritania.
The 22-year-old was also included in Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
