In a deeply moving act of kindness,, the Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stepped in to help a three-year-old boy, Patnam Kantam, who was diagnosed with a life-threatening hole in his heart. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has generously covered the full cost of the surgery, which will take place at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
On December 5, 2024, she donated $7,500 to cover the surgery expenses and an additional GHc5,000 to assist the family during the recovery period. The donation was made in person at the hospital, where she also expressed her gratitude to the medical staff for their dedicated work. “I feel privileged that we could come and provide the necessary support,” she said.
Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, the Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, praised Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for her personal involvement, noting that while many people might send a cheque, she took the time to visit the child, meet with the family, and show her love and care. “This is a truly significant gesture born out of your love for children in our country,” he remarked.
The father of little Patnam, Mr. Abdul Majeed Kantam, expressed his deep gratitude to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, praying for God’s blessings on her life. The surgery is scheduled to take place soon, and the family remains hopeful for a successful outcome, thanks to this compassionate support.
