Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice-presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will tour three major markets in Accra on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

The tour aims to engage with market women, traders, shop attendants, and other key figures in the city’s vibrant commercial hubs.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will visit Mallam Atta, Kaneshie, and Makola markets, where she plans to interact with a wide range of individuals, including kawaii (head porters), commercial drivers, and passengers.

The primary focus of her visit will be to discuss and promote the NDC’s policies related to women’s financial empowerment.

During the tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will outline the party’s plans for establishing a Women’s Development Bank.

This initiative is designed to provide approximately one million women in business—including food vendors, market women, bakers, hairdressers, and dressmakers—access to loans featuring flexible repayment terms.

The proposed Women’s Development Bank is part of the NDC’s broader strategy to support female entrepreneurs and business owners. It aims to boost economic opportunities and financial stability for women across the country.

The tour is expected to offer Prof. Opoku-Agyemang a platform to directly communicate the NDC’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment and to gather feedback from those directly affected by these policies.
