The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, Dakoa Newman, has urged the youth of the country to avoid being manipulated by frontline politicians to instigate violence before, during, and after the 2024 general election.
Speaking at a peace concert organised by the Zone C of the Adventist Choir Union in the Accra City Conference, Madam Newman emphasised that Ghana’s peace can only be protected through collaborative effort from both the government and all stakeholders, including the youth.
The peace concert by the youth of the Adventist church was to facilitate a dialogue on the need for maintaining peace before, during, and after the December polls.
The event was attended by frontline politicians, security service personnel, and the church’s youth.
Madam Dakoa Newman emphasised that the December 7 general election will be a “test on Ghana’s democracy, and it is the responsibility of all individuals to protect the country’s longstanding peace and stability”.
Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Criminal Investigation Department, Joseph Abednego Atsah, speaking to the media, said Ghana Police is ready to ensure peace in the upcoming election.
He called for support from Ghanaians to make the work of the police easy in this year’s election.
Dr. James Kwabena Bomfe said the Adventist Church has in recent times been pushing for a change in the electoral calendar of the country from the dominant Saturday to a non-denominational day to enable all believers to exercise their franchise. The church has been assured that their proposal shall be considered in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary election.
