Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partner were victims of an attack and robbery at their home in Paris.

Several assailants targeted the couple in their flat in the city’s eighth district, where they were tied up. After managing to escape, they sought refuge in a nearby hotel. The incident was reported to the authorities by hotel staff, and the couple was subsequently taken to the hospital.

“A spokesperson for Paris prosecutor’s office stated, ‘An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma’s place,’” the BBC reported.

The attackers made off with valuable items, including jewellery, watches, and luxury leather goods, amounting to approximately €500,000 (£430,000), according to reports.

Donnarumma, who plays for PSG, sustained minor injuries during the ordeal, while his partner, model Alessia Elefante, remained unharmed, as per sources cited by Agence France Presse.

The goalkeeper had moved to Paris two years ago and was scheduled to join the PSG squad for pre-season preparations.

Previous PSG players have also been targeted by criminal gangs, though most incidents occurred when the players were not at home. In a similar case, two men were sentenced to jail last January for a robbery at the home of Brazilian footballer Marquinhos in Yvelines, west of Paris, which took place in March 2021.
