Regional Women’s Championship Playoff: promotion race in Group A goes down the wire

The race for promotion to the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League in Group A, Southern Zone reaches a riveting climax as the destiny of the club to join FC Epiphany Warriors, hangs in the balance until match day (5).

Epiphany Warriors after winning 4 matches, amassing 12 points and keeping a clean slate, has secured the first of the two slots available with a game to go, have confirmed their promotion into the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

The second slot will be wrestled for between Greater Accra side, Halifax Queens and Volta Region’s representative, Luta Thunder Ladies on match day 5.

Halifax Queens are second on the championship playoff league table with 9 points after winning 3 matches and losing a game while Luta Thunder Ladies are third on the league table with 6points after winning 2 matches and losing 2 matches.

However, the deal breaker is both sides are schedule to play against each other on match day 5 in an epic deciding match.

Halifax Queens(already on 9 points) need to win or draw to consolidate their grip on the 2nd spot and qualify for the elite league, while only a resounding win can bring Luta Thunder Queens to 9 points and thus qualify per the rules of the competition.

The first two matches in Group A (Epiphany Warriors Vs Mfantseman Royal Ladies) and Samartex Ladies vs Rootz Sistaz) will be played simultaneously at 9:00am on field A and B respectively on Friday 21st June,2024 at the WAFA Park Sogakope.

The deciding game between Halifax Queens and Luta Thunder Ladies will kick off at 11:00am on field A on Friday 21st June,2024 at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.
