The University of Ghana has concluded its Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidential rerun election, with Larbi Ofori Richmond and his running mate, Gyampo Ayeh Ebenezer Derrick, emerging as winners.
The runoff, held today, Thursday, August 21, 2025, saw the duo secure a decisive victory with 16,074 votes, representing 63.2% of the total ballots cast.
Their opponents, Evander Kofi Akrasi and Michael Fareed Yeng Anwar, managed 9,355 votes, translating to 36.8%.
According to the Electoral Commission of the SRC, out of a total voter population of 59,460, only 25,429 students turned out to vote, representing a turnout rate of about 42.8%.
The runoff was necessitated after Monday’s initial polls failed to produce an outright winner, as neither of the competing camps attained the mandatory 50% plus one vote required to be declared winners.
With today’s results, Raymond and Ebenezer are officially set to lead the University of Ghana SRC for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Their campaign, which focused on student welfare, better engagement with university management, and improved digital systems for SRC activities, resonated strongly with voters in the second round, giving them a clear edge over their rivals.
The election marks the end of weeks of intense campaigning, debates, and anticipation on campus.
