Ghanaian defender Samuel Kwaku Owusu was the unlikely hero as Union Omaha earned a hard-fought 21 win away to Indy Eleven in the US Open Cup second round. In a tight contest at Michael A. Carroll Stadium, Owusu broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, stabbing home from close range to reward Omahas growing pressure and give the visitors a 10 lead. That goal shifted the momentum fully in Omahas favour. Kempes Tekiela doubled the advantage eight minutes later, finishing clinically to make it 20 and seemingly put the tie to bed. Indy, who had enjoyed more of the ball but struggled to create clear chances, finally pulled one back through Jack Blake deep into stoppage time, but it proved too late to deny Omaha a deserved victory.Owusus composed display at the back, crowned by his decisive strike, underpinned a disciplined team performance from the visitors. Union Omaha now turn their attention back to league action, with an upcoming USL League One clash against AV Alta on Sunday, April 5, their next assignment.
