Rising Ghanaian rapper Awal Mohammed has revealed that award-winning rapper Sarkodie once promised to feature him on some tracks, but the promise has yet to materialise.

Awal shared that the promise came through a mutual contact, Mr. Simon Ohene, who facilitated a conversation between the two rappers.

“I confronted one of my Godfathers, Mr. Simon Ohene—he’s really cool with Sarkodie—and we sat to talk, where Sarkodie promised to put me on some tunes. But till now, there’s nothing,” Awal said.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Monday July 14, he also clarified that he has no issues with Sarkodie, contrary to public perception.

The young rapper expressed frustration over the perception that he has a problem with Sarkodie, saying it continues to negatively impact his growth in the music industry.

“Most people think I have a problem with Sarkodie, and that also affects me. I have no issues with Sarkodie,” he emphasised.

Awal, who gained national attention through talent competitions and was once mentored by Sarkodie, noted that industry relationships have changed as he’s grown. He cited rapper Kofi Mole as an example, stating that he reached out for a collaboration but received no response.

“I chased Kofi Mole with some songs, but I didn’t get any response from him,” he revealed.

Despite the setbacks, Awal remains hopeful and made a heartfelt appeal to the public and stakeholders in the music industry:

“All I want is the support I need to keep going.”
