Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Honorable Francis-Xavier Sosu, has once again made Ghana proud, receiving the esteemed U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of his extraordinary advocacy and service to humanity.

The award, backed by the White House and bestowed upon Sosu by the Jacob-Abbey Global Institute for Leadership Studies (JAGILS), was granted earlier this year during the Juneteenth celebrations in the United States.

At Ceremony held in the USA, where the world gathered to honor Sosu and other distinguished awardees including the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K Bagbin, also receive recognition, a testament to the growing presence of Ghanaian leaders on the global stage.

The honor highlights Sosu’s years of dedicated work in Parliament and advocacy that spans beyond Ghana’s borders, establishing him as an influential figure in human rights on the global stage.

Sosu has tirelessly fought for legislative reforms, including the historic abolition of the death penalty and the criminalization of witchcraft accusations in Ghana, both of which mark critical milestones in advancing justice and protecting vulnerable communities.

Honored to be joined by his wife, Felicia Adwoa Konadu Sosu, and their four children, as well as other notable figures like Madam Vida, Director of Welfare at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters in Accra, and Dr. Prince Agyemang, the Washington DC Chairman of the NDC, Sosu stands as a symbol of Ghana’s expanding influence in global human rights discourse.

Earlier this year, Sosu was celebrated as the Most Outstanding MP in Africa for Human Rights Advocacy and recognized as Ghana’s Political Personality of 2024. His journey from a disadvantaged background to becoming a lawyer, activist, and lawmaker epitomizes resilience and determination to uplift others.

His advocacy has not only influenced policies within Ghana but has inspired audiences across the U.S., including appearances at the United Nations in New York, on Fox 13 TV in Tennessee, and in schools across Oklahoma, where he’s shared his life story.

In a congratulatory statement, JAGILS noted, “Hon. Sosu’s impact is felt far beyond Ghana…we look forward to celebrating his achievements and those of our other distinguished honorees.”

This U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service is not only a tribute to Sosu’s personal dedication but also a significant moment for Ghana, showcasing the country’s commitment to human rights and progressive governance.
