The Member of Parliament (MP) for the South Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Hon. Wisdom Kobena Woyome, has marked his birthday with some one hundred (100) widows including the elderly ones at a brief ceremony at Adutor. The women from communities like Adutor itself, Akutukope, Bekpo, and Avuto, received parcels of rice and mackerel tin fish for their meals.

The event was a continuation of the MP’s annual engagement with the vulnerable in society on his birthdays. In the past, Mr. Woyome made similar donations to charity homes and pregnant and ante-natal mothers. He also donated hospital beds and equipment to health facilities in his constituency.

The MP’s wife, Mrs. Woyome, a former parliamentary aspirant, Mr. Jonathan Adusu, and some constituency Executives, including the Communication Officer and Youth Organizer, Messrs Nicholas Aklorbortu and Michael Gati respectively, accompanied him to the event.

Speaking to our news team after the engagement, Hon. Kobena Woyome said the decision to celebrate his birthday with the widows this year was because of the important role widows play in society and the spiritual scheme of things.

According to him, it was also based on divine direction to secure intercessory prayer from the widows for the victory of Mr. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming December polls.

The MP noted that because of the special value nature and society placed on these widows, their prayers to God are not hindered.

Mr. Woyome stressed the need for members of the society to continue not only to accord such women with respect and decorum but also support them in whichever way possible to receive the blessings from the Almighty God.

He urged the widows to remember the former President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama in their prayers, urging them as well to vote for him to return to power to reset the country.

Mr. Jonathan Adusu, for his part, commended the widows, most of whom are retirees for their contribution to the development of the constituency in particular and the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. He also urged the widows to encourage their relatives and everyone they come across to vote for the NDC, assuring them that it is only the NDC and Mr. John Mahama that can turn around the economic fortunes of the country.
