Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Bagbin, has called on newly sworn-in Members of the 9th Parliament to familiarize themselves with the rules, procedures, and protocols of the House to effectively carry out their legislative and representative duties.

He made this statement during the opening ceremony of a four-day orientation programme organized by the Parliamentary Service in Accra.

The programme aims to familiarize the first-term MPs with parliamentary practices and procedures, the structure and functions of the institution, as well as parliamentary etiquette and terminology.

Addressing the 115 first-term Members of Parliament during the opening ceremony of a four-day orientation program, organized by the Parliamentary Service, Mr. Alban Bagbin stressed the need for a thorough understanding of parliamentary procedures and protocols.

He highlighted that such knowledge is essential for effective lawmaking, oversight, and representation. He further reminded them of the weighty responsibility entrusted to them by their constituents and urged them to approach their roles with dedication and integrity.

“Also keep in mind, that because of the tremendous responsibility, you wil be expected to uphold the highest standard of honesty, integrity and moral uprightness”, he stated.

The orientation programme, being held after the MPs were sworn in on January 7, 2025, aimed to provide first-term Members with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate their responsibilities effectively.

The sessions, facilitated by parliamentary experts, will provide practical insights into the workings of Parliament. Members were urged to actively participate to ensure they are well-prepared to contribute effectively to the 9th Parliament.
