Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan
Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has lauded former Black Stars captains Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan for their immense contributions to Ghanas qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars sealed their place at next years global showpiece to be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico with a hard-fought 10 victory over Comoros on Sunday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The result saw Ghana finish top of Group I with 25 points, securing a return to the world stage after missing out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Mr Adams commended both Appiah and Gyan for their dedication and continued involvement with the national team.
“I would like to thank the former captains who are currently with the team. Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah have done a good job,” the Member of Parliament told Asempa FM.”We know Stephen Appiah serves as the Vice Chairman of the Management Committee, and Asamoah Gyan has been with this and done he has a brilliant job.”Even Andre Ayew, who has been out of the team for some time now, also contributed to this success,” he added.
Ghanas latest qualification marks their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, having first made their debut in 2006.
The four-time African champions will now shift focus to preparations for the 2026 tournament, with the official draw set for December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
