Ghanaian global music icon Stonebwoy has revisited the journey of Afro-Dancehall and its growing influence across the world, sharing key reflections during a feature on BBC 1Xtra.

Speaking on how far the genre has come since his early interviews with the station more than 13 years ago, the award-winning artiste highlighted the cultural power and unifying force of music.

Stonebwoy, who has been a central figure in shaping and exporting Afro-Dancehall, noted that his mission has always been bigger than entertainment.

According to him, the genre’s evolution is deeply tied to a broader vision of a borderless African identity one that is strengthened by shared rhythms, storytelling, and artistic exchange.

He emphasised that his passion for unity continues to drive his musical direction. “I have a great passion for uniting people with my music,” he said, reflecting on how Afro-Dancehall has created a bridge between diverse audiences across continents.

Over the years, Stonebwoy has consistently used his platform to promote African cohesion, advocate for cultural pride, and push the boundaries of the genre. His appearance on BBC 1Xtra serves as both a reminder of the movement he helped ignite and a testament to how far Afro-Dancehall has expanded globally.

As the genre continues to grow, Stonebwoy remains committed to championing African music on the world stage, reinforcing his belief that sound knows no borders.
